Magnus Poirier inc.
«We believe that the optimal use of information technology directly impacts a company’s ability to sustain service excellence.»
Claude Poirier
President and Chief Executive Officer
Since the founding of our company in 1923, we at Magnus Poirier have prided ourselves in offering uncompromising services tailored to the cultural and religious traditions of our clients. Seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day, there is always a member of the Poirier family poised to ensure compliance with the high standards of quality to which clients are entitled.
This does not mean, however, that we compromise on corporate profitability. Rather we seek to maximize administrative efficiency by remaining on the outlook for increasingly more performance-oriented management tools and techniques.
Today, Magnus Poirier Inc. comprises a total of eight funeral home complexes in the Greater Montréal area, provides body repatriation services from anywhere in the world, and enjoys an active presence in all professional associations at the regional, provincial, national and international levels.
Magnus Poirier/GTI Canada partnership
In 2003, we decided to outsource our computer system management operations. We chose GTI Canada given the latter’s capability to advise us with respect to both infrastructure and software.
From the outset, GTI assumed full responsibility for the daily management of our network: preventive morning watch, monitoring of data transmission volume, user training and ongoing technical support through a Help Desk
GTI has since integrated and updated our network, and recently synchronized our Exchange and BlackBerry servers. GTI also implemented a document digitization system, provided guidance in drafting informational assets protection policies and set up a remote data backup system.
In parallel, GTI developed our logistics package. A first in the industry, this package incorporates each of the steps in the body management process: initial carrier alert, newspaper notices, supplier and cemetery arrangements, coordination with Corporation des thanatologues du Québec (CTQ), invoicing follow-up, etc. In addition to managing the overall process, the system handles each of the sub processes specific to each step and allows users to follow up respecting each step and each service offered. Easy to use, this system details potential and definitive commitments per week per funeral complex and, in addition, signals any potential conflicts.
Today, our IT system extends to all eight branches and includes eight servers, 40 permanent workstations, 30 mobile workstations, a virtual private network (VPN), as well as both traditional cable and wireless infrastructure. The system is also integrated with other systems such as AS/400 and our website. Our logistics package has become the reference standard in Canada.
Our partnership with GTI has proven a wise choice in terms of IT optimization. We know that we can count on the know-how and rigour of GTI’s multidisciplinary team, as well as the strategic input of the company’s partners.
