Founded in 1975, Lamcom has become a leader in the visual communications industry. Specializing in the printing, installation and transformation of visual concepts, Lamcom serves a client base comprising major Montréal advertising firms, grocery superstores, upscale boutiques and international business corporations.

In 2006, we decided to outsource the management and maintenance of our IT infrastructure and computer population. However, we soon discovered that precious few Montréal-based IT firms possessed the know-how needed to oversee our hybrid network: our management team uses PCs whereas our production units use MACs linked to cutting edge printing equipment. In the four years previous to our decision, we had nonetheless had occasion to work with GTI Canada. We first commissioned their Business Solutions Group to design and install the software package we use to manage the billing of work in progress. We then called upon their Facilities Management Group to help us resolve various IT infrastructure issues. Based on this positive past experience, we decided to retain the services of GTI Canada.

In instances of outsourcing, GTI engages in a rigorous process the first step of which involves conducting a full audit and then:

• Drawing up a complete, detailed inventory of equipment, software, program packages as well as related licences and warranties; and,
• Charting recommended enhancements replete with a financial assessment based on company priorities.

These reports, which are constantly updated, provide Lamcom with input for corporate financial planning exercises and follow-up meetings with GTI.

GTI’s mandate is essentially twofold:

• Ensure proper operation of the Lamcom network at all times
  To do so, GTI makes weekly inspection visits, monitors development in terms of volume of data processed, thereby preventing potential overload. GTI also analyses all incidents as they occur with a view to avoiding system breakdowns.
• Ensure integration of new production equipment into the Lamcom network
  GTI is regularly called upon to collaborate with installation teams from leading edge equipment manufacturers such as Vutek and Encad. In so doing, GTI is poised to understand how the new technology is to interface with our network and what security measures need to be put into place.

In addition to this base mandate, GTI conducts a technology watch which allows us to benefit from the latest innovations. This is how we came to appreciate their remote data backup service. We avail ourselves of the services of their sales consultant when contemplating the purchase of IT equipment and entrust them with the management of warranties and software licences.
