Behind the scenes at FileMaker DevCon 2019

Our two colleagues Jocelyn Ostiguy and Roch Drouin have arrived at the Gaylord Palm Resort hotel in Orlando, Florida, where the 2019 edition of FileMaker Devcon is being held this year. Right after registering at DEVCON, our colleagues already had a question: why is the FileMaker logo and name nowhere to be seen?

Day 1

Our two colleagues Jocelyn Ostiguy and Roch Drouin have arrived at the Gaylord Palm Resort hotel in Orlando, Florida, where the 2019 edition of FileMaker Devcon is being held this year.

Right after registering at DEVCON, our colleagues already had a question: why is the FileMaker logo and name nowhere to be seen? There is no banner, no t-shirt, nothing. It suggests a special announcement is coming, and the same question can be read on the faces of the DEVCON regulars.

In the evening, GTI attended a reception for FileMaker Business Alliance members of more than 20 years (which does not make us any younger). A fine reception, during which a FileMaker Trivia game was played with questions only long-time FileMaker hands could answer. (For example: what year was the first version of FileMaker released, and what was it called.)

Day 2

Opening remarks by the new CEO, Brad Freitag, who presented his vision for the future of the company and revealed the special developments coming to the platform.

Then came the big announcement everyone had sensed: president Brad Freitag unveiled the new brand and identity that will replace FileMaker, Claris.

Claris now carries a new logo, which you can glimpse on the t-shirt of our colleague Jocelyn. Coming out of the presentation, our colleagues saw the decor in the conference centre change completely, logos, banners, and even the news on CNN and NBC announcing the big news and the rebranding.

Questions and surprise are on everyone’s lips.
