As it does every year, DevCon follows a certain thread. This year, according to our colleagues, that thread was the cloud and the acquisition of the company Stamplay.
Here is why:
- FileMaker Cloud, which officially arrives in October, is becoming more and more of a must. Claris is pushing us hard in that direction with its "cloud first" slogan.
- Claris Connect opens up endless possibilities for connecting web applications together in order to speed up the workflow in data transfers. Claris Connect will be available in the first quarter of 2020.
Out of the twenty or so talks our colleagues attended, here are the highlights:
- Learning techniques to measure and maximize the performance of FileMaker and FileMaker Server;
- DO’s and DONT’s and things to know to improve success in hiring and retaining employees;
- A very thorough demonstration (by the company LuminFire) of various tools for sharing data in real time with applications such as WordPress, Twilio and Mailchimp, without needing JSON, cURL or APIs;
- Tips and tricks in layouts and themes to improve the performance of our solutions;
- A demonstration of effective, intuitive interfaces (UX) built around the workflow instead of "list-detail";
- What a micro service is and how to integrate it with FileMaker. Deploying a micro service in the cloud and integrating it into FileMaker;
- Hosting types and security parameter configuration (TLS/SSL, and so on);
- Discovering a technique for generating reports that adapt easily to different contexts while staying simple to maintain (few fields and relationships needed);
- A demonstration of the various techniques other developers use to modernize and improve interfaces.
DevCon is already coming to an end. We are looking forward to our experts getting back so they can tell us more about what they thought. The next DevCon will be held in 2020; until then, do not hesitate to contact us! We would be glad to talk it over with you.
