FileMaker Developer Conference 2016: Day 2

Day 2 at the FileMaker Developer Conference 2016 in Las Vegas and Jocelyn Ostiguy, our representative on site has to make tough choices among the 23 sessions offered. With 25 years of experience in design and as a FileMaker developer, Jocelyn wanted to confront his opinions and experiences to the vision of other design experts. His first day of activity is therefore more focused on topics related to his expertise.

Custom App for FileMaker WebDirect

First conference of the day: "Prepare your Custom App for FileMaker WebDirect" presented by Johan Hedman, FileMaker Developer at Atatiki AB, summarized in 10 steps how to ensure effective development and pitfalls to avoid when preparing custom applications for FileMaker WebDirect. On the menu: good practices, development techniques, key points, items and information to validate, connection to solutions and ultimately production implementation.

Design and FileMaker

In the afternoon: "Executing Design: from Ideas to Action" given by Chih Hsiao, Senior User Experience Designer at FileMaker, talked about the importance of design and design management as well as the development process. He also addressed other issues such as implementation strategies, design results versus the quality objectives and the attributes of a good UX. Jocelyn, who really enjoyed it, summed it up: "Design is a continuous process that must be led by the technology chosen. It is an artistic act in pursuit of quality, which requires mutual communication and dialogue."

Grid system for FileMaker App Solution

Last session of the day: "The Grid System: Structure, Efficiency and Clarity" by Yann-Liqueur Salzedo, FileMaker Developer at Infografix. Jocelyn attended this presentation that was aimed to demonstrate how the grid system can be adapted for the conception of a FileMaker App solution. Inspired by many design examples, he also had the opportunity to share his knowledge on certain issues faced by other attendees

To conclude the day, an evening reception was held for the FileMaker Business Alliance members. An opportunity for our colleague to do some networking and discover excellent projects made with FileMaker.
