Fourth and newest era
Back to Paris for a slightly more stable life and above all one closer to my children. I worked with expert systems (very expensive ones) as an administrator at a fashion company, then as an independent consultant configuring and installing those same systems between Paris and London. I could not help comparing the per-user costs of these solutions with FileMaker, and the large sums committed for the smallest change or added feature. But these were big international companies with several hundred users, and the systems performed very well, and in the cloud.
I also built FileMaker solutions for television or the fashion industry, one job at a time. I wondered what my next life project would be, tired, it has to be said, of being a freelancer subject to almost confiscatory taxation.
Our family left on a trip to North America, revisiting the places where I had lived and new regions we discovered together. On the way back, the idea of taking the big leap again took root in the family. A dream of Quebec slowly settled into our heads. But there is a long way between the cup and the lip; where and how to start? when? We thought it over.
My partner forwarded me an ad she had found online. And there I was, freshly landed in Montreal at a company, GTI Canada, where I found again the values I appreciate in the world of FileMaker developers: passion, integrity and a demand for work done well.
Once again in my life, FileMaker was there.
The latest version of FileMaker (16) opens a new era of connectivity. The improved cURL options and the built-in JSON functions will make exchanging data with other web services and applications easier. The adventure continues.
