Ingram Micro ONE Fall 2016: Day 1
1 December 2016
Patrick Hardy, Partner and Vice-President Managed IT Services is live from Las Vegas for Ingram Micro ONE Fall 2016. Since November 29th, the conference brings together all of Ingram's partners, close to 2000 attendees, including 350 members of the Trust X Alliance which GTI Canada is part of.
Here is a summary of the conferences Patrick attended on this first day of activity.
Cybersecurity: 2017 Threats
For this first day, cybersecurity is at the forefront. A conference given by Derek Manky, Fortinet's Global Security Strategist, "Building an Intelligent Security Fabric" described the challenges of cybersecurity for 2017. Some of his predictions for the upcoming year:- The 20 billion connected objects are the weakest link in the cloud, and manufacturers will now be held accountable for the security breaches they may cause.
- "Stop building walls and fortresses, start detecting abnormal activities and gather intelligence to protect ourselves more intelligently." is a good headline of the new approach to fight increasingly autonomous and human-like malware.
- New targets: Smart cities and eventually building management systems.
The second conference of the day on security was the presentation of General and former director of NSA and CIA, Michael V. Hayden, outlining a global picture of security and cybersecurity as well as the changes that affect them: the diminished role of nations in the protection of cyberspace and the rise of certain actors (hacktivists, criminal groups, malicious states). Which he summarized this way: ''Problem with security now is that Nation states and hard power play less of a role. Sub-state actors and even individuals are empowered. Failed states create risk. The US is threatened less by conquering states than we are by failing ones.''
The future of IT in business: Cloud computing
Renee Bergeron, Senior Vice-President, Global Cloud Channel at Ingram, updated the group's corporate cloud services strategy. Their message: Service providers must help customers adopt the cloud by advising them and maximizing their existing investments. On the same subject, Patrick attended a conference given by Jason Bystrak, Executive Director, Sales Cloud at Ingram Micro, "Building and Enhancing your Cloud Business Model". From the development of your solution to its marketing strategy, his conference presented in 8 steps how to set up and optimize your cloud computing business model.
