The second day at the FileMaker DevCon started at 8am and we went straight in the session after breakfast.
Layout Fundamentals – By Filemaker Inc.
Have you ever wondered how and when different layouts parts of the layout load data? What are the rules that govern the proper behavior? Does the order of script triggers prevent from achieving the goals of the layout?
This session answered these questions and went into detail of portal rows and how to efficiently manage data It went deep into the Filemaker Layout and how they work. It explored how layouts are stored and best practices on how to organize the layouts in the complete solution you are building. It explored ways to categories the layouts in an organized fashion instead of just listing them one after the other.
This session also focused on the schema, data and scripts, and also showed a new layout feature in filemaker16 like card styles windows and the new layout object tree. For filemaker GO and IOS there was a section on animations and transitions very impressive! Its really easy to build full mobility apps with filemaker and filemaker GO 16. This was a good session and highly informative!
Designing Patterns and Multi Design pattern
This session focused on how solving UX problems using repeatable components reduces development costs. It showed how to help establish a consistent visual language and feedback mechanism creating cohesive user experience that makes the application easy to learn. In this session they showed how to identify patterns to create interaction hierarchies, methods to classify and scale the solution from platform to platform (Mac OS, To windows, to ios we web direct, mainly design strategies for multiple screens and phones and tablets).

Last session of the day:Internet of Things IoT in Action
The FileMaker Platform has allowed Volvo CE to be the first construction equipment OEM to provide real time remote machine monitoring as a full-market offer. This session uses shows how FileMaker to deliver the full benefits of telematics and provide a service that takes machine uptime to a level never seen before. Basically they use combination devices that are hooked up via a satellite stream and hooked up to FileMaker to monitor real time diagnostics of machines and see real-time fault codes. As an example heavy equipment is monitored via the communication boxes and monitored and diagonals are sent to the customer in real time to prevent down time on heavy equipment and if there are problems detected with the equipment a dealer is located to repair the unit.
FileMaker FBA 20 year appreciation meeting and cocktail
At 5Pm we had a meeting for the FileMaker FBA and platinum members who were part of the history of FileMaker for the past 20 years it was an appreciation meeting and a chance to meet other members.
