MOBILE APPLICATION | TICKET SCANNER | JFL 42 TORONTO

This mobile application was created using the Ionic platform. This platform provides a UI library and includes a set of technologies that facilitate the development of hybrid applications, i.e., applications that work as web applications but also on Android, iOS, and other platforms. The main use of our application is to scan tickets for shows, which are presented in the form of a QR code. As a reminder, a QR code is a series of numbers formatted as an image. For JFL42, a QR code is generated dynamically when a user reserves their ticket. Subsequently, when the festival employee uses the “Ticket Scanner App,” the application detects the QR code, decrypts it, and sends it to our MASP (Mobile Application Service Provider). MASP is an application that acts as:
  • connector between the applications (Ticket Scanner APP + Spectator Application) and the festival website,
  • API (or application programming interface) in order to view and/or modify the data on the website to which it is linked,
  • interface for viewing data and modifying data unique to related applications.
Thanks to our MASP, data is interconnected and synchronized, allowing applications to view and modify reliable data at any time and simultaneously. When the Ticket Scanner App sends a barcode to MASP, it checks with the website to verify that the presentation has indeed been booked by that user, providing an extra layer of protection against fraud. A scanned ticket then becomes “scanned” for all employees instantly. Any cell phone with a medium-quality camera can be turned into a scanner that can be used by festival staff. Several Ticket Scanner Apps can run simultaneously on multiple phones, as the application draws from the same data source, i.e., the website. Finally, each device has its own access key, which is created in advance in the MASP by an administrator. Even if someone managed to install the app on their phone, they would not be able to scan any tickets.
